If you are charged with a crime and cannot afford an attorney, you should contact the Tuscarawas County Public Defender Office (203 Fair Ave. NE, New Philadelphia, 330-364-3523) for free help.  The PD also represents children charged with delinquent acts and parents whom are charged with neglecting or abusing their children.  The PD does not handle any other legal matters.  You should not wait until just before your court hearing to contact the PD.

Southeastern Ohio Legal Services (332 W. High Ave., New Philadelphia, 330-339-3998) represents some low-income individuals on civil matters, such as victims of domestic violence, evictions, welfare benefits, and creditor problems.
